02 — A LITTLE CONTEXT

A number, with some perspective.

What is the Rice Purity Test?

The Rice Purity Test is a checklist of 100 experiences, traditionally used as a conversation starter. This classic edition covers relationships, sex, alcohol, other substances and encounters with the law. It is intended for adults, and some questions may feel personal. Taking it is always optional.

The name comes from a student tradition associated with Rice University. This site is an independent interpretation of the checklist, with local scoring and a receipt you can choose to share. It is not affiliated with Rice University, and it does not claim to be an official assessment. See our method and sources.

How does the score work?

On a complete answer sheet, your score is 100 minus the number of checked items. If you check 28, your score is 72. Unchecking an item you previously selected records No; an untouched item remains unmarked. Before calculating, you can choose to count unmarked items as No or keep them unanswered.

Skipping is different from saying No. When any items remain skipped or unmarked, you receive an Incomplete result with a possible score interval. We do not fill in your unknown answers, average them out or present the upper limit as a finished score.

What does my result say about me?

It says how many items on this particular list you checked. It cannot tell someone which experiences you have had: very different answer sheets can produce the same number. A higher or lower score does not establish your character, maturity, health or relationship quality.

There is no target to aim for, and the list is not a challenge to complete. Some items describe experiences that may be unsafe, unwanted or unlawful. You never need to explain an answer or disclose a result. Our score meaning guide explains the arithmetic without assigning moral labels or invented rankings.

Your answers. Your call.

Answering and scoring happen in your browser. Your answer sheet is kept in session storage when available, with a memory fallback if storage is blocked. Browser session restoration can retain it, so use Clear answers when you want to remove the local sheet. Ordinary page visits still request files from Cloudflare.

Saving a receipt generates an image locally. A result link contains only the score or broad range you choose, never individual answers. Anyone with the full link can decode that summary, and links cannot be revoked or forced to expire. Share only what feels comfortable; keeping your receipt to yourself is a complete experience too.

03 — GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you overthink it.

A few things worth knowing.

Is a higher score better?

No. Higher scores mean fewer checked items on this list. They do not measure a person's worth, maturity or wellbeing.

Can I skip questions?

Yes. Skips stay unknown, so your result will be marked Incomplete with a possible interval. You can still save an image.

Do you see my answers?

Individual answers and scores are processed locally. There is no result database, account or answer submission API. Read the privacy details for the full data flow.

What will my friend see?

You choose a complete score, one of five broad ranges, or a guess-first reveal. The link preview stays neutral. No individual answers are shared.

Can I change or delete a shared result?

You can clear your local answers, but already shared links and saved images are independent copies. Making another link does not disable an earlier one.

Why might another version give a different score?

Wording, question lists and treatment of skipped items can differ. Compare only equivalent versions and read how to interpret the score.

BEFORE THE REVEAL

A quick check-in.

Skipped questions will stay unanswered either way.

Clear your answers?

This removes your local answer sheet and receipt. Clearing your answers won't disable links you've already shared.
