THE NUMBERS, WITHOUT THE LABELS
Rice Purity Score Meaning
Your score counts checked items on this particular list. A higher number means fewer Yes answers; a lower number means more. Neither number describes your value or reveals your specific experiences.
For example, a complete score of 96 means 4 Yes answers out of 100. Someone else can have the same score from four entirely different items.
How is the score calculated?
Each of the 100 items has equal weight. No category carries extra points. If you checked 28 items and answered No to the other 72, your complete score is 72.
Unanswered items need a different treatment. If you have 18 Yes answers and 7 unknown items, the possible score is 75–82. It stays Incomplete until those seven are answered. We never use the midpoint, convert the answered proportion into a score or present the upper limit as a complete result.
Score ranges
These ten bands are editorial groupings of the arithmetic, not population norms. They do not imply a personality, a percentile or a particular activity.
| Complete score | Yes answers |
|---|---|
| 90–100 | 0–10 |
| 80–89 | 11–20 |
| 70–79 | 21–30 |
| 60–69 | 31–40 |
| 50–59 | 41–50 |
| 40–49 | 51–60 |
| 30–39 | 61–70 |
| 20–29 | 71–80 |
| 10–19 | 81–90 |
| 0–9 | 91–100 |
The five broad ranges available for sharing are separate: 0–19, 20–39, 40–59, 60–79 and 80–100. They are a disclosure choice, not these ten explanation bands.

What is the average score?
We have not verified a representative average for this version. A meaningful average needs an original dataset with a known sample size, sample population, collection period, question version and method.
A voluntary campus sample describes the people who chose to participate there. A website poll describes its respondents, who may differ from visitors who did not submit a result. Neither automatically represents adults everywhere. A representative survey would need a sampling method suited to the population it claims to describe.
We do not collect or aggregate your test results, so there is no Rice Purity HQ user-average dataset behind these explanations. This evidence limit is not a claim that no survey has ever existed.
Does age change the meaning?
Age can change the context in which someone reads a question, but it does not change the formula. There is no age-based passing score here. Without appropriate evidence, assigning an expected number to an age would turn an assumption into a benchmark.
The classic list includes adult topics and is intended for adults. It is not a development checklist or a measure of what anyone should have done by a particular birthday.
What is a good score?
There is no good or bad Rice Purity score. Your number is a count from a self-reported entertainment checklist. It does not assess morality, maturity, health or relationship quality.
You never need to justify an answer or aim to change the number. Choosing to skip an item or keep a result to yourself is valid.
What do 100 and 0 mean?
100 means zero Yes answers on a complete answer set. 0 means 100 Yes answers. These endpoints say only how this list was answered, and do not verify a person’s history.
The activities are not a bucket list. A score should never become pressure to attempt an experience, disclose something sensitive or judge someone else.
Retaking the test
Use the same question version for a basic comparison. Even then, a change may reflect memory, interpretation or changed answers as well as new experiences. A lower number is not an achievement, and a higher number is not a qualification.
The current questionnaire is labelled classic-100-v1. Its source wording is frozen for this version, including historical terms and the ambiguous question-mark item. You can skip anything you cannot answer confidently.
Frequently asked questions
What does a Rice Purity score mean?
It counts how many items you did not mark Yes on a complete version of this checklist. It cannot describe your whole life, identify particular experiences or measure your worth.
How is the score calculated?
For a complete 100-question answer set, subtract the number of Yes answers from 100. Every item has the same one-point weight. Unknown answers produce a possible interval instead.
Is a higher score better?
There is no better score. A higher number means fewer Yes answers on this particular list. It is not evidence of better character, health, maturity or relationships.
What does a score of 100 mean?
On a complete test it means zero items were marked Yes. An untouched questionnaire is not automatically a complete 100: you must decide how to treat the unmarked items.
What does a score of 0 mean?
It means all 100 items were marked Yes. The number does not establish whether those answers are accurate, and completing the checklist’s activities is never a goal.
Can two people have the same score for different reasons?
Yes. Many different answer combinations have the same Yes count. A shared total does not disclose which questions were checked.
Is there a reliable average score by age?
We have not verified a representative dataset with a documented sample, collection date, method and matching question version. We therefore do not publish an age-average table or use one to judge your result.
What happens if I skip a question?
A skipped item stays unknown. Your result is labelled Incomplete and shows the lowest and highest possible score. You can download that labelled receipt, but cannot create a result link until the answer set is complete.
Can I compare scores from different versions?
Only with care. Different wording or items can change what a Yes means. Matching totals from different versions do not necessarily count the same experiences.
Can my score change when I retake the test?
Yes. Your experiences, recollection, interpretation or willingness to answer may change. Use the same version if you want a basic comparison, without treating the difference as progress or decline.
Are my individual answers shared?
No. Links made here contain only the precise score or the broad range you choose, plus the test version and display mode. Your individual answers stay in your browser. Anyone holding a complete result link can decode its summary.
